Basil has been thought of as an aphrodisiac for centuries and featured heavily in most diets. It was once thought to ward off evil spirits and is still worn tucked in the hat to scare away insects in Mediterranean climates.
Source: Ocimum basilicum is grown in Europe, The Mediterranean, Pacific Islands and America.
Extraction: Basil essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowering Sweet Basil plant.
Aroma: Basil essential oil has a warm, sweet and spicy scent.
Fragrance note: Top.
Properties: Basil essential oil is a refreshing, light and uplifting tonic and is used in aromatherapy to relieve the symptoms of a stressful lifestyle and to aid focus.
Uses: Massage, baths and inhalation. The smell of sweet Basil in the bath will lift your spirits.
Blends well with: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Fennel, Ginger, Geranium, Grapefruit, Lavender, Lemon, Marjoram, Neroli and Verbena.
Caution: Basil essential oil is potent and may cause skin irritation in some people. Do not use in concentrations greater than 1%. Avoid during pregnancy.
