The tangerine is a variety of the mandarin orange. You may sometimes see it on the market as Citrus x tangerine. The oils have similar properties, but different aroma characteristics.

Properties: The pure oil is yellow-orange and has a light constancy.
Tangerine essential oil is antiseptic, carminative and tonic. It is refreshing and rejuvenating in character. It is often used by pregnant women and the elderly and is a good toner for oily skin. The aroma may help to relax fractious children. When employed in massage it may help to ease stomach problems.
Uses: Massage, baths, vaporization and may be added to base emollients.

Caution: Tangerine essential oil like most citrus oils can be phototoxic.
Care should be taken not to expose the skin to sunlight after a treatment.
It should be diluted to 5% or less in a suitable carrier oil before application to the skin.
