Petitgrain Essential Oil
Citrus aurantium amara Petitgrain has been used in eau de Cologne for hundreds of years because of its refreshing, stimulating and deodorising effects.
Today it is used in perfumery, cosmetics and as a flavouring in drinks. At first the oil was extracted from the small green unripe oranges. The name petitgrain comes from this, meaning little grains.
Source: It is grown commercially in France, North Africa and South America.
Extraction: Petitgrain essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree.
Aroma: Pure Petitgrain essential oil has a tangy, sharp, orange scent.
Fragrance note: Top to Middle.
Properties: Petitgrain essential oil combines both relaxing and stimulating properties. It is an ideal oil to help relieve stress or tiredness. Its relaxing aroma encourages a restful night’s sleep. It is also excellent for balancing the skin and scalp.
Uses: Massage, baths, vaporization and may be added top base emollients.
Blends well with: Benzoin, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Clove, Cypress, Eucalyptus Lemon, Frankincense, Geranium, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Mandarin, Marjoram, Neroli, Oakmoss, Orange, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Rose, Rosewood, Rosemary, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.
Caution: Petitgrain essential oil is perfectly safe for home use.
All citrus oils need to be stored in a cool, dark place to preserve them and keep them fresh. Always ensure proper dilution.
