Source:Origanum majorama originated in Asia but is now grown all over Europe and cultivated for oil in Tunisia, Morocco, Germany, Hungary and Egypt. Ours is sourced from India.
Extraction: Sweet Marjoram essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the dried flowering heads of the shrub.
Aroma: Sweet Marjoram essential oil has a spicy, peppery, camphor and thyme-like scent.
Fragrance note: Middle.
Properties: Sweet Marjoram essential oil is relaxing soothing, warming and fortifying. When used in massage it can help to stimulate circulation, brighten dull skin, and bring relief from muscular aches and pains. The aroma brings tranquillity and helps to lift one’s mood.
Uses: Massage, baths, vaporization and may be added to base emollients.
A few drops in a hot bath boost the circulation and lift the spirits, as well as soothing any aches or muscular pains. For massage, Sweet Marjoram essential oil is particularly good for a stiff neck and tension headaches.
Inhale it with steam to relieve a chesty cough or congestion.
Blends well with: Basil, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Lemon, Fennel, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Orange, Peppermint, Pine, Rosemary, Tea Tree and Thyme.
Caution: Ensure proper dilution of Sweet Marjoram essential oil. Do not use it during pregnancy.
