Has been used for thousands of years as a cleansing incense for several Nepalese and Tibetan cultures. Cypress trees were planted outside of temples and burial grounds by the Greeks and Romans. It was used medicinally and to make sarcophagi by the Egyptians.
Source:Cypressus sempervirens is native to the Mediterranean but is now cultivated throughout Europe and North America.
Extraction: Cypress essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the freshly picked leaves, twigs and cones of the evergreen tree.
Aroma: Cypress essential oil has a warm, woody balsamic scent with an invigorating effect.
Fragrance note: Middle.
Properties: Cypress essential oil is astringent, antiseptic and stimulates circulation. The aroma is uplifting and can help ease the stresses of a busy day. Cypress Oil is good for balancing oily and overhydrated skin. It is a natural deodorant and is good for excessive perspiration. It may also sooth varicose veins and ease symptoms of menopause when used with massage.
Uses: Massage, baths, vaporisation and may be added to base emollients.
Blends well with: Benzoin, Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Chamomile, Citrus Oils, Clary Sage, Ginger, Juniper, Lavender, Marjoram, Pine, Rosemary, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.
Caution: Dilute Cypress essential oil to less than 5% before application to the skin. Keep away from the eyes.
