Our essential oil beauty hacks

essential oils safety recipes self care

It’s been a while since we’ve given our readers a listicle, so our team came up with their favourite tips and tricks for using essential oil and carrier oil products. Incorporating essential oils in your beauty routine is super easy, as long as you follow the golden rule of diluting them down to 5% concentration!

It’s also important to consider where you’re applying essential oils. Many citrus oils, such as lemon and grapefruit have phototoxic properties, which can damage skin if you go out into the sun after using them.

1# Add a drop of rose oil to your primer

If your skin looks a little sallow in the morning, add a drop of rose oil to your preferred primer. This will help to tighten pores, reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and give you a healthy glow.

#2 ...Or invest in some rosewater!

Alternately, rosewater makes a fabulous natural toner. Gentle enough for daily use, rosewater has a skin-tightening effect which gives the appearance of more youthful, healthy skin.

#3 Frankincense for fine lines

Some users find that frankincense oil helps to lift and tighten skin, reducing signs of aging. For best results, you should dilute frankincense oil with your favourite carrier oil, and apply as a serum before makeup.

#4 Tea tree spot treatment

For years tea tree oil has been hailed as an acne saviour. And for good reason, this oil naturally reduces inflammation and clears bacteria to reduce breakouts, and prevent them from spreading.

Combine one drop of tea tree with your favorite carrier oil, and apply directly to spots with a cotton bud.

#5 Peppermint-fresh skin

Sometimes you need a little pick me up in the morning, and adding peppermint oil to your moisturiser is a great way to shake off that groggy feeling! It’s a natural antiseptic too, and helps to fight off acne.

#6 Rapunzel hair with lavender

Silky smooth locks are closer than you think. For a moisture boost, create your own overnight hair mask using coconut oil and a few drops of lavender.

#7 Calendula dark circle saviour

Banish puffiness and undereye circles with calendula cream. The soothing herbal extract will soothe tired eyes, and it won’t dry your skin out. Try our version, right here.

#8 Almond oil makeup remover

For a gentle way to remove makeup, apply almond oil to a cotton wool ball, and work into the skin. While most makeup removers can be drying, using a carrier oil like almond oil means skin will stay soft and hydrated.
